Hi Satchi,
Transport for London's 'Journey planner' facility lets you search your destination by post code, put in your starting location too (by post code or by station name) and they'll give you instructions for your whole journey - i.e which station to head to, and then the walking or bus route to the specific place you're looking for.

I don't recognise NM9 as a place in London though, do you mean NW9? In that case it looks like Kingsbury (Jubilee line) or Colindale (Northern line) would be your best options.
Good luck!
Maccle
hi natassia, hazyjane and maccle
thank you so much for your replies! I really appreciate it. I'm in Stratford upon avon now; I will be going to london tomorrow by car; but after that I want to take the Underground.
yes the postcode is wrong, I misread my own handwriting!!! yes you are right it is NW9.
I'll look up the tfl and walkit sites.
I forgot to ask, shall I get an oyster card? Will that get me to NW9 and back. I also need to get to KT1 and Chelmsford Essex.
thanks very much again for your help
love satchi
Oyster card will cost you a fiver but worth it if you're likely to visit London again. If this is just a one off trip though, possibly not.
Whether you need one on this occasion really depends on where you're starting from! If you're just making two single bus journeys you might not have much to gain. Again, the TFL website will have advice on fares etc.
Be aware that some bus journeys in central London require you to buy a ticket from a machine before boarding, so do have some change.
I live near KT1! If you're going to all these places then you might be better off getting a one day travelcard for each day you're in London - off peak it's about £8 I think and you can go anywhere in zones 1-6 all day, using the overground, buses and the tube. I think that will be cheaper than an oystercard, but then I'm not sure what zone Chelmsford is in so you might have to buy another ticket for that trip.
