I am confused between which statistical test should I use. I am doing a study on frequency of generational difference related conflicts and am trying to find out whether they are gender dependent or not, i.e. are conflicts high in case of females as compared to males always?? But I'm confused about the most appropriate test. the responses have been collected on a 5 point likert scale. Please help.
I think a statistician may have to look at your data, hypotheses, and dependent and independent variables to determine the most appropriate tests.
Mann-Whitney will be fine for comparing ordinal/ranked data (survey responses) between groups (male and female). For details on justification and how to do it in SPSS, visit: https://statistics.laerd.com/spss-tutorials/mann-whitney-u-test-using-spss-statistics.php
