..Eek! Would anyone have any clues as to what kind of funding bodies might just help me out while I'm writing up?
I'm planning on getting a job (either temping or full time demonstrating) and saving like mad - but I'm not sure if it'll be enough! (don't get the wrong idea -I'm not exactly living the life of Riley!!)
Someone, somewhere, mentioned something about 'women in science' (which is me) but I can't find anything, even with a furious amount of googling!
Any ideas guys?!
p.s. Arghhh!
women in science: you could try the international federation of university women IFUW. they have long decision making periods however! (i think the application deadlines are in autumn, but you can "start" (i.e. you get money) no earlier than the following june or such.)
but, do check with them, in your local country and internationally.

good luck!
Thanks guys for the replies... I'm now going to (a) buy a lottery ticket (or 1000) and (b) check out the sites you suggested. I have a feeling I'll be eating Asda special price baked beans and cardboard for a couple of months. A couple of acorns maybe, to get my 5-a-day too. Oh well. It's worth it, RIGHT??!?! :-| lol
Wow! Well, with odds like that - how CAN I lose?! Sod this, no more thesis writing for me. I'm off to the local casino to gamble all my worldly possessions (including the cat) See you later when I'm rich! x
p.s. will give you a 10% cut for the suggestion. Will be a mere drop the ocean of my richness for me! haha!
@ Verdy: My immense lottery win - you might want to sit down for this... I found 5p in the staff canteen
I am contemplating the same situation as of next January...busy saving too! I have found an account with 8% interest - tax free of course due to studentness :o)
Much as it is slightly depressing, I do plan to go on the dole. You can work up to 15 hours per week and still get the dole. Also, don't forget to budget in your council tax - and check when it is due from as I have friends who have been lumped with back dated bills.
Also check Martin Lewis' money saving expert site for excellent tips.
Good luck
