MPhil Vs PhD, and lecturing!

G

Hi there,

I've just started as an RA whilst doing an MPhil (2yrs). I already have a masters so we're trying to get another years funding to make it PhD, but I'm worried about the workload plus I'm unsure if I want to stay in academic research. How much difference is there between an MPhil and PhD? Also, I'm considering lecturing for the future, how likely would I be to find a position like Assistant Lecturer without a PhD? Any advice/views would be appreciated as I have little time to get my application in!

Go for the PhD, an extra year's work will be worth it, especially if you want to lecture. You usually need a good research background for lecturing positions. Good luck.

I agree with Ann - you need a PhD to get anywhere in academia - both lecturing and research! You've done most of the hard work so it would be a shame to let it go now! It should be quite easy to transfer to a PhD! Good luck and hope you get the funding!
