hmm, from a "real academics" viewpoint, i'd say do what you enjoy and ignore what other people say. I do MRes genetics and i get medicine/physics/maths people telling me thats a soft subject! If you worried what people thought of a subject, you'd never study anything. My only advice would be to look at the graduate destinations of the course, and whether or not it had any external funding. Good employment and external funding give an indication of how high quality the course might be.
I posted about creative writing. I've already done a degree that was 'chosen' for me, so now I'm going with what I want to do. People might think it's mickey mouse, but there's no point me doing a masters in biophysics just to impress people. After all, I'll probably be paying the money back. Go with what you want to do.
