My name is Paul and I inquired about going on for a PhD and made progress in finding a placement and a supervisor. However, the admissions department and the Research Directors turned down my application (which I thought was because of my very bad outline). After going through the appeal and finding out after classes had started, the appeal board held up the admissions stance on not admitting me due to my grades (which I was told would not be a problem). Does anybody have any advice on proceeding in finding a place for the Spring semester (which is when I would like to begin - though I can work from the US until September) and how I should go about finding a supervisor/university. My research area is complicated with several sub-divisions and anything regarding academic freedom. In my undergraduate, we were trained to do US Research with a former State Department Historian. So I am basically looking for a mentor-type supervisor that is open to ideas, interdisciplinary and can keep schedules with honor and morals. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
