Orignal Research

G

I find it hard to see where I can manage "orignal research" during my 3 years on PhD. I seem to find papers where others have always tried stuff. Is this a common finding of people?

I think I can compile what others have done in a whole inter related research discussion instead of separate pockets, but is this enough? Is it ok to approach things out there and test and incorperate them between each other to show peoples ideas have some relation.

Basically I am saying if I don't find anything brand new will I still get PhD??!

A PhD needs to 'demonstrate an original and significant contribution to knowledge'. Even if some PhDs end up bearly filling this criteria they all start out with it as an aim.
