Perspectives after PhD

G

Hello, does anyone know whether it is possible to change the area of research after a PhD? I am currently doing a PHD in molecular neuroscience on the trafficking of brain receptors (methods: hippocampal primary culture, fluorescent microscopy, confocal microscopy, cloning, viral transfection, HPLC, Mass spectrometry, Western Blot, genotyping...). I like to do a postdoc in Neurophysiology/ electrophysiology. Does anyone know whether there are grants supporting students which like to change the research area? I guess that groupleaders want postdocs with experience and do not like to train them first. Many thanks for your help! Nicole

You shouldn't find it too difficult to change to a related discipline. A PhD is a training in how to carry out research, not necessarily in the specific research area.
