Hi, I am looking for some advice to start my PhD application process in the USA as an international (British) graduate. I am currently feeling confused and would greatly appreciate any advice and guidance.
Before starting the application process, I wish to email certain supervisors to ask what qualities and experiences they are looking for in a potential student- would that be okay? And not come across as weird.
Secondly, let’s say when I have figured out what area I want to progress in and have don’t more extra things to make my application stand out. Can I email a professor directly asking them to be my supervisor/ about funding etc. Or do I just apply to the PhD programme directly?
Thirdly, is it a wise idea to email current students attending my potential university and asking them if they can give me advice on how to stand out? Qualities and experiences to develop myself in? and maybe some advice on application process too?
Also, I am a psychology BSc and MSc graduate.
Thank you.
