PhD in Computational Neuroscience after BE Computers

F

Hi Friends,

One of my friend is an IT professional from india. He has done BE Computers & have around 3.5 years of experience.

He has a very deep interest in neuroscience field, but have plenty of questions in his mind & no directions .. so thought would put a word to community, if u can help out, that would be great for him.

He has not done masters, and he is looking for something similar to UK new route phd (Masters & PHD combination).

1. Is it possible to start a combined PHD after BE Computer engineering? Do he need to clear any other exams such as GRE, Toefl, IELTS, etc, for admission to PhD?

2. People have suggested him that Computational Neuroscience is a good choice for him, as he can utilize his experience (Even I have suggested him same). Would you recommend him to go for computational neuroscience or any other branch in neuroscience?

3. He has approached two or three research students to clear the same queries, but their review was such that he do not have that excellent resume so that he can get selected for a PhD, and that too after only a BE Computers. What would you suggest for him to improve his CV i.e. to be a more suitable candidate for PhD Position in neuroscience.

4. Do you suggest him working on some projects / internships related to computational neuroscience for some time, so that he can improve his CV. If so, can you guide him to someone who can provide any details about such projects. He is not intending it to do for money, as what he wants is only to improve his CV.

If you need any more info about his profile, do reply back!

Thanks for your time and efforts!

Thanks and Regards,
Dharvi Kapoor.

hello your friend has 3.5 yrs of work experience after BE computers. He is still young.
1. Yes. And yes if you come from India you need either IELTS or TOEFL or something.
2. Sure (he needs to start somewhere)
3. Not sure what else to do to improve his cv
4. Sorry dont know much about this field

if your friend is still so keen, he can also apply for an MSc programme (instead of just phd) in this area; sometimes it is not only based on the CV that students are selected from; it is also research ideas etc.

dont sit around and wait
do something
