Hi!
I did a video PhD interview on Skype. I've been told via email, later that day that my interview went well [I can let you know that your discussion went well ]. However, they also added that [any recommendation for the scholarship is subject to approval by the Graduate School in the Business School and confirmation of a supervisory team].
Now there's the easter break and they told me that I will have an update next week.
I am happy for the positive feedback, but I don't fully understand if I most likely have the position, and it is only a matter of signatures or if they are just polite and they'll let me know! Probably it's because I am not a native English speaker...
I did the interview on Tuesday, and got the answer straight that day and update the day after. I had to reschedule the interview because I am also working, and finishing my MBA, so I guess I could have been the last one that they interviewed.
What's your opinion?
I am quite anxious to know the outcome and cannot think of anything else!!!!!
Thank you!!!
Ele
I take it that you applied for the "general" university scholarship and not a "project specific" scholarship. The general scholarships are normally open to all candidates in all the faculties/schools. The way it works; schools or supervisors are asked to advertise topics to prospective candidates. Candidates who meet the minimum requirement are interviewed by a panel that includes the supervisor for topic chosen. Your supervisor is the one who makes a decision to forward your name to the next stage. After all schools have conducted interviews, the shortlisted candidates have to compete for the few scholarship places. From the language of the email you received, you may have made it to the next stage. Awarding of scholarships is done by Graduate School (or other constituted body). They look at many factors like how many students on similar scholarships has your potential supervisor got right now. And they have to distribute them equally to all faculties. Your potential supervisor has no input whatsoever at this stage. Don't expect a decision immediately after Easter break. Most likely decision will be around May. Good luck
thank you both for your replies!
this application in particular was 'project specific'. I received today the letter and I was accepted. but I still need to know the outcome for the linked-scholarship.
However, the info you gave me are very useful because I have also another application that is slightly behind in terms of timeframe ( I submitted my own proposal with my potential supervisor). This second application is not linked to a specific project or specific scholarship. It's good to know how it works and to have an idea of the timeline! I really don't want to bother too much the admission office asking for constant updates! so I bother this forum instead :P
I received the second confirmation... so I'm in! I still have my other application... I just sent an email to check the timeframe in order to make my decision!
So, I don't think it's common. It means it will be challenging to me, given the high calibre of the people I should work with.
