Hi emma, I had an interview several weeks ago and they asked questions regarding my hons project (know this inside out) and some others on a research placement I organised. the usual other q's will probably come up why this project why here etc.. and rea the literature around the subject, primarily on some of the methods used and key results, and find out who is top in the field you are going into. these may come up but its a starting point, be very confident ..you want to publish publish publish, this will get you some extra interest.
It seems a bit unlikely that they will ask you that during your interview, non? If you haven't even worked on the topic how should you know about the direction it should take. It is more likely that they will ask you what direction you would have taken your hons project to see if you have soom ideas and interest.
If their advertised topic wasn't very specific maybe the supervisor hasn't really got any plans of what research should be done in the PhD- find out if they know what they are expecting from you and if they have a good plan where to start of with in the PhD they are offering you.
