Hi,
I am looking to do a PhD in Microbiology and I was just wondering if anyone know when studentships are usually released? I keep seeing 1 or 2 being released each month, but I have been told conflicting stories about when most of them are released.
thank you for any help,
As far as I know individual institutes and departments just release them as and when they're ready, certainly works that way in my subject (genetics). In some cases departments may try to advertise in spring or summer so they can catch students finishing their degrees that June, but it really depends on when they get their funding sorted.
Yes it seems to vary a lot - I've seen some science studentships advertised as early as October (for starting the following autumn!) while some don't appear until the spring or even later. There are no hard and fast rules about it as far as I know. It's best just to keep an eye on findaphd.com or university/institute web sites throughout the year and see what comes up.
