So I passed my Viva with minor deficiencies back in February and was given three months to do the corrections. However, I work full time at a museum so am only getting to work on corrections at most 2 days a week. My corrections require a substantial re-write of my literature review as well as a few other edits. I've spent the last two months reading through the additional literature that needs to be added, but some of it has proven impossible to get hold of and some of the other texts don't even seem to be relevant. I'm stressed out and depressed and am seriously considering quitting. I've applied for a three month extension but don't think it is going to be enough time. Made worse by the fact that my contract with work ends in October so I will soon have to start looking for new jobs. I really need some ideas on how to deal with this and properly plan out working on my corrections, at the moment it is overwhelming.
Hi coleman1981, congrats on passing viva. You can do it! It is so hard to work full time and then try to apply oneself fully to something else on weekends. It may sound mad but can you just set aside one day a week for the corrections? Personally, I need a day of head space or just can't function. I'd be doing that or else seeing I could reduce my hours at the museum if I felt I didn't have enough time seriously.
You said it in your last line that you really need to have a plan for completing your corrections. That seems to be the key here. Then you will know how long each element should take and when you will complete it. Are you a perfectionist by any chance? If so then now is the time to kill that and just get the corrections done as requested. I'm sure others who have been through the corrections process will have more practical advice.
Congragulations on passing! I am no where near submitting but the corrections don't need to be perfect. I know at my university, as long as you did the corrections as asked they have to accept it. It is not in anyone's interest to keep the cycle going so just do the bare minimum and submit.
