I am wondering if anyone could help me here ??? I have very recently (last week) started a PhD and at my initial meeting with my principal supervisor he explained more in depth the extent of the project. The truth of the matter is what he explained was fundamentally different to the synopsis placed in the initial advertisement (although in the same subject area).
The project in the main was to create mathematical models to ensure manufacturers can create products in a uniform way in the future. However, there was no mention of any of this and what he was asking of me was to actually attempt to produce a tangible product using electronics and the like which there was no reference to in the advert??
The meeting was brief and I expect to meet up with him in a few days time for a longer explanation.
1.Does this happen often?
2.Should I man up and challenge him asking him why the main points in the advert have not been discussed?
3.Has he got the right student for the project?
