HI can anyone answer a question for me. My wife has just started back at University to take a further nursing degree. She currently has 2 degrees and a post graduate certificate. She has been told that she can not gain a degree qualification and she will end up with a graduate diploma. Can you not get two degrees in the same basic subject (same core modules but different optional specialty modules). Hopefully someone may be able to shed some light on this for us.

If there's a significant overlap, then no, because then you could get a very large number of degrees without doing much extra work. For example, in my area, biomedical science, biochemistry, pharmacology, and molecular biology all have a significnt overlap.
