new to here and so far finding the site very interesting and informative, I, m employed full time and doing my PhD part time and at a distance from college, so I have very little contact with other post graduates.
My enquiry is about reference management software, do any of you use it and any recommendations?
Hi jjdempsey, there have been quite a few threads about these if you scan through but Endnote seems a favourite amongst a lot of people but you have to pay for. I used JabRef during my PhD as it's free and platform independent (and really good if you're using Latex/bibtex).

Like DanB said most people seem to like Endnote. As it's not free I don't use it. I've got a combination of things...Connotea to store the papers I have found online, Zotero for referencing in my word documents and OneNote to keep the notes I have made on the papers I have read. I've just started my PhD so no idea if it will work in the long run but it worked quite well for my undergrad.
ye I use Onenote a lot it's handy for keeping notes and procedures etc. I have loads of papers on various subjects which I need to keep better track of, nothing as bad as reading through something wrote and then not being able to find some of the papers you referenced!
Only started the PhD this year too so have a few years still ahead of me.
I'm currently loving Mendeley Jjdemspey, I've stuck a post on the forum about it somewhere! It's all free and has an online storage facility thing to, and it's the most user friendly I've seen yet :)
is Mendely good for APA format?
And does it have up to date reference types e.g. electronic reports, books, articles etc.
I'm struggling with endnote XI and can't afford a later version. It just doesn't have all the reference types I need e.g. electronic government report.
I love EndNote. Quite simply, it's saved me a huge amount of time, and helps me keep all my reading in order. Some people use it for finding papers to read too - I don't, as I prefer to use Medline or Web of Science. The only other bibliography software I have experience of is RefManager. This is made by the same people as EndNote, and I reckon it'll be phased out over the coming years, as everyone I know seems to use EndNote.

I ave used most of the reference management softwares.. but i can bet refworks is the best https://www.refworks.com/ its online based and u can log in from anywhere even ur mobile phone. i highly recommend it and u can play around with it aeven call refowrks guys to customise it for you.
down loaded a trial of Endnote and have been using it today, seems to be handy enough ok, will certainly save a lot of work once you get used to it. Will have to find a bargain price for next so I can keep it!
Downloaded Office 2010 professional yesterday for £39, was only looking at it at a local PC World on Sunday where it was over 400 Euro!
