I've been offered the chance to review and have published a review, which is fine, except the author is somebody who my supervisor mentioned in passing might be interested in examining my PhD. I would never be unduly critical, and there is nothing to say she would definitely be my examiner, but should I steer clear?! Thanks.

Personally, I would stay clear of this.

Book reviews, generally, are quite easy to get hold of so I don't think the benefit is worth the risk.
