Hey, i am a current masters degree student [mathematics] in london, first worry is that can i apply for a Phd if i have not yet finished my masters?
my goal is actually becoming a teacher, and i already have offers, but i was thinking about going for a phd to be able to find a job at a university or college[more money, less stress and work load in my opinion]
but am i PhD 'material'? i mean i am a good student, but how do i know if i have what it takes? :/
i was also thinking about the country i will go, i hear in usa you can also get good money by teaching[which is really good since i am self-funded], anyone knows about this?

do you have to know exactly what your area of thesis is before you start?

in the long run, i just want to know, is it actually worth it?

i also wanted to add, im now 21 years old, dont know if that makes me too young for a PhD, but i just want to do everything i can in terms of studying, so i can find a job, settle down and start travelling the whole world

i would hate to take a year off and then realise i dont have the courage to live abroad again and study for 4-5 years..

Well, think again. I just don't think that's the case. The workload is not related to common stereotypes ("6 months holidays and so on")

"but am i PhD 'material'? i mean i am a good student, but how do i know if i have what it takes? "

You can only find out if you try. I think the best advise I can give you is to ignore any advise from this forum. If you really want to do it, just do it. Then you will also survive the tough ride itself. If you have doubts and need to be convinced to do it, go and do smth else.

Ask a few lecturers. You will be in for a BIG shock.
