Is there a minimum number of cases/participants required for SEM?

Is there a rule e.g. you need ? number of participants per variable entered??

I dont know the minimum number of N for SEM;
I only know we need hundreds of N for SEM :-)
I remember reading a (SEM) paper with over 1000 participants

when you know the rule or the minimum or number of participants per variable, can you post back here as well, I would like to know too :-)
