supervisor meeting

G

I'm a first year PhD in Molecular Science. I'm meeting my supervisor every 2 months to discuss my progress. Some units have weekly meetings - should I consult my supervisor more often, to look more keen?

G

Try to find out if your supervisor is happy with the way things stand. If he is very busy or wants a hands-off approach, you might annoy him or look like you can't think for yourself rather than looking keen! At the moment you have freedom to develop your own ideas, optimise results and repeat any failed experiments. The people with weekly meetings might envy you!

G

Don't bother about what you look like - if you feel happy with once every two months stick with it. If you feel you need more guidance ask for more frequent meetings. Your supervisor seems fine with this or he/she would have suggested more frequent meetings.
