I have been doing a research degree at Leicester University and after two years of studing there as a part time student, the university authorities have not permitted my upgrading to a PhD and offered me to do an MPhil there or I should go to other universities for a Phd. I really am so confused and do not know what to do, as an MPhil does not serve my purpose? I will really appreciate anyone who could give me some advice
Well dear, practically speaking , dont give up!! Ask to RS with proper explaination and look into da details as why u r not being permitted. may be u could find the solution.. And if your aim is PhD only and u ve an offer den you dont need advice! Ryt?? Cheer up!!
Hi Reece
Have your supervisors explained why they are not allowing you to transfer to PhD? Is it a funding problem? Have you been through the official Mphil/PhD transfer procedure (whatever that may be at your institution)? I think we will be better able to advise you if you can give more information on why the university is not supporting your transfer to PhD. Best wishes.
Dear Ann
At first i was working on a thesis on T S Eliot but my supervisors told me that they were not able to support me and advised me to choose a topic which they selected for me. When it was the time to upgrade to PhD status the examiners told me that thesis was not going to get to any viable point for a PhD and rejected my request of a second chance to revise it.
Hi Reece What do your supervisors say? If they selected the topic, then they must have felt that it could be taken to PhD level? If your transfer examiners feel differently then it was a good thing that this was identified (better now than at your actual viva) and demonstrates the importance of the tranfer procedure i.e. this is picked up early enough for you (and your supervisors) to do something about it. Has anyone explained to you why you are not being given a chance to revise your proposal?
