Hey guys! I have my viva tomorrow! It's over three months since I submitted and I've been working crazy hours at my new job so this weekend has been my only time to prepare. Starting to panic a bit now! I've found a bunch of typos, nothing major just silly little mistakes but just a lot of them! My supervisor freaked me out a bit last time I spoke to him as he pretty much told me to prepare for a battle as my examiners are known to be picky and my thesis was pretty rushed at the end. Eek! Any words of wisdom from those that have been through their viva's already?
Good luck Caro! I'm yet to have my viva but please keep us posted... XXX
From what I hear spotting typos at this stage is par for the course though... X
Thanks Chickpea and Eska! I'm ok with defending the Typos, but I have found some inexcusable figure labelling issues and one point in a discussion where I go on about a result for about half a page but mentioning the complete wrong thing so it makes no sense at all! Wah, I just hope my examiners are full of Christmas spirit (or just full of spirits from their work do's) and aren't too brutal!
I had some issues like yours with my thesis. Some were spotted by the examiners and some were not (yippi!!!!).
What I did with the ones they spotted was just to acknowledge them and say that I had missed that spot! At the end, I passed with minor (very minor) corrections and when I received my list of amendments, most of them were not even in (I did correct them, though, for my final submission)!
Hi Caro, this may come too late but best of luck!!! I had my viva on Friday and it went better than I was expecting! Like you I had some errors as well namely punctuation and certain sections in the text not updating properly (e.g. Section 3.4.5. came out as Section 0). I also had issues with my compound numbering where I forgot to update compound numbers on the graph to match the legend and this was picked up by my internal. I did print out all these mistakes and I told them that I'd already picked them up so it wasn't anything major.
The whole viva was more of a discussion of basic things (chemistry in particular) to be honest. They did ask about my thesis but the majority of the questions were mainly on my understanding of things I would never have thought would come up but I took a gamble and still revised them so I wasn't caught off guard when the questions came!! I have minor corrections to do which shouldn't take me more than 2 weeks (that's my plan anyway).
Best luck and hope yours goes well too! x
