Want to drop out of PhD, want MRes instead

S

I'm nearly 4.5 years into a PhD and want to finish this as my experiental work is like a wild goose chase and i don't see an end in sight. I have stooped being paid a year ago and now feel like saying to hell with this and would like to kick start my career and start earning. I want to pick up a masters from this as i enrolled from a bachelors degree. do institutions allow for MRes instead of MPhil and what criteria must be filled? i would prefer an MRes. at the moment i have a thesis that is ~29,000 words.

S

anyone?

B

I thought it was common for an MPhil to be offered, if anything. You'd have to check with your own institution to see what its rules are. That's the crucial thing, not what applies at other places.

yeah, i just want to make it an easy transition, just want any old masters without the need for spending more time on the document and i dont want a viva :/

There probably isn't a shortcut. You wouldn't need a viva, but you would need to produce a thesis of acceptable quality for the Masters, and that's not just an incomplete PhD thesis.

The alternative is to get an MRes elsewhere, but that would involve even more work and cost.

trying to see if others have gone through a similar route as me or if anyone can give me any other insight on the process of obtaining an MRes or MSC masters instead of the MPhil
