Well to put it really briefly (and these are only a few arguments for being vegan): The (mainly) Western world's huge consumption of dairy products means that dairy cows are exploited and generally live only a quarter of their natural life span often in a degree of pain; we rely on developing countries to provide crops to feed ourselves and our cattle, rather than allowing them to grow food for themselves.
The amount of animals bred for the meat/dairy industry contributes significantly to dangerous levels of gas (I'm not a scientist) creating hole in ozone layer; most people are allergic to dairy milk but dont know it; animals are still kept and killed inhumanely, even Free Range products are linked to this; meat/dairy doesnt give you anything you cant get from a vegan diet (apart from heart disease etc.); there's no reason to suggest it's 'natural' to eat meat/dairy; life is sacred, violence is wrong, eating eggs/dairy just contributes to the whole meat industry ...... and I'm not just talking out of my own arse, I once worked in an abbatoir, before I saw the light
DJ Wickid its nice to hear someone who speaks sense! I am trying to make the transition from veggie to vegan. Ann if u sell vegan cakes I will come to your shop! The nicest chocolate cake I have ever tasted is vegan. :)
If I don't get my PhD I will open a boarding cattery which will fund my cat rescue work. I would like to open a cake shop too.
you say that animals live only a quarter of their natural life span but if we didnt eat diary products then most humans would not breed cattle. Is it better not to be born than to live a shorter life? Also if its not 'natural' to eat meat, then why do we have carnivore teeth? Are carnivore animals cruel for eating meat? As a scientist, I would be interested to know your view on animal testing
Acutally we dont have carnivore teeth. Our teeth are closer to non-meat eating animals than carnivores. Think of lions' teeth, their fangs are hugely out of proportion to the rest, for ripping into meat. Don't know about your's, but my teeth are all relatively in proportion to each other. And I dont think breeding animals (or humans for that matter) just to exploit them is good.
