I have a 2:1 in biochemistry with 6 months research experience at a good uni, and am now working for a good scientific research company. Im desperate to get a phd course but am having no luck. I either get no replies or a "sorry" in the post weeks later. I genuinely want to do all the projects i apply for and give my reasons but its not working. Is it just very competative to get a phd or just that I have the minimum grade required to do one. Do I need a 1st to get one really?
sorry to hear about the rejections; it's always hard to take. but don't be discouraged. there are plenty of students i know who have a 2:1 and very little research exp, and seem to get in fine. competition for the interesting phds is tough. but stick in there!
