When to apply for a PHD

G

Hi!!!I am doing my MSc this year and I am thinking to start a PHD in October 2005 when my course will be over. Do you know if I have to send application now or later? I am not sure what field of biology and subject I want to chose for a PHD yet! Does anyone know when they are going to reply if they are going to take me or not for a phd that starts in October?

G

Hi Joy, I think you'd better start choosing the programme and the subject right now. I am not sure how it is in biology, but in my field most deadlines for PhD applications are in April-May if you are not interested in funding. And if you need financial assistance, deadlines are around January-March. It usually take from one to two months for the university to consider you application.

I have only a basic degree in education teaching TESL.I would like to go for a PHD programme that suits me. I'm 43 years old with 15years of teaching experience.I'm from Malaysia.

hello, I think you maight be a bit late now...most dead-lines are in january or april, if you are lucky march. Particularly if u r looking for funding u better hurry up, biology is a very popular subject

G

You should hurry up! some phd's in my lab have already been appointed. The adverts all came out in New Scientist in February, so maybe you can find that and have a look at the adverts. it might be worth ringing the supervisor to see if the position is still open if you are applying now. Good Luck!
