Some people get their PhD's from fully accredited, internationally recognised universities, others buy them of the internet and some we're not so sure about.
Just to kick off the list, how about 'You are what you eat' clinical nutritionist Dr Gillian McKeith, whose PhD comes from the American Holistic College of Nutrition (now Clayton College of Natural Health). You can read more about Channel 4's favourite health guru in a number of articles in The Guardian's 'Bad Science' column.
Another favourite is Dr Ian Paisley whose Honorary doctorate came from the then unaccredited Bob Jones University in South Carolina, USA. See his entry in Wikipedia.
If you can add to the list please do, but don't forget a web link to back up your claim.
I was thinking about a degree in "life experience" from the Ashwood University for starters.

Supprise your supervisor! Please your parents!
OR (as Ashwood put it):You struggle in relationships, as 'she'* thinks you don’t have a promising future?
* Err, in my case this would be "he" ....
Important:
"The degrees we provide do not contain words like "Life Experience" or "Online." They are the same degrees issued to students enrolled in traditional programs at the university. "
The degree actually looks pretty of you frame it, AND: "Moreover, we will actually award you a score for the subjects that fall under your field of study on your transcript. Many universities simply write “Pass” which makes it apparent that the degree is based on life experience."
Well, I think it's quite interesting, so I guess that makes me boring! I suspect this thread was started in response to one of Ann's comments in the 'if you could meet one person regardless of time' thread. I remember thinking at the time that Ewan McGregor's honorary doctorate was dodgy - I'm not sure that acting is an academic pursuit.
