I would also suspect a broad query that is not raising answers after a few days is not likely to do anything more than be unhelpful filler between active helpful discussions.
And even questions can include previous actions, to help others know what is useless to attempt.
We don't delete threads very often. Occasionally they get moved into the "General" section if they are questions such as "Can anybody help me find a PhD in maths". The current page only shows the last 20 threads for this category, perhaps yours have dropped off? Try selecting "40 threads" from the top right menu.
Your studies became germane when you began critically parsing your words and the words of the original questioner in an attempt to make your elusive and ill-considered point. I noted that your studies were apparently not linguistics, which is the science of languages, or of the origin, signification, and application of words. Do you have any other questions? Oh, that’s right, we should not ask or answer questions in the forum – sorry.
I'd be inclined to agree with Another another student in that broad statements such as "someone help me find a PhD in the UK" don't usually end up generating an interesting and useful discussion (from anyone's point of view), and from what I understand, is not really what is intended. However, I'm wondering whether I'm qualified to make such an assertion given that I'm not a linguistics student, and therefore I may not know what I'm talking about.
I too worry my opinions carry less weight. I cannot patronise, pontificate, nor eloquently eulogise myself by inference.
I worry too that the understanding of the etymology of my words is by far the most cogent aspect of my argument, a facet which even I myself am
lacking. I could palliate but that would be unconscionable to me.
