Working from home

G

Start PhD next week! It is mostly computational based with no lab work. Could I potentially work from home on some days? Any experience of this? Probably depends on the supervisor and student?

G

I work from home, can't remember the last time I was in my department. Couple of months ago

I work from home. I went into Uni today for the first time in ages and had forgotten how to log onto the computer! it's been that long since i have been near the place.

Be careful Jas. Some supervisors might give you "basket to carry water" and in the end you might drown.

At a later stage of the PhD visits to the department will be less and student will not lose much. But at the begining of the degree it is necessary and important to see supervisor and other students.

I'm working from home for a few weeks before I move up to the uni. I've done nothing and I'm SOOO bored!

G

I work from home 3-5 days a week. My advisor would rather have me in the office more often - so much that he put a computer in my office the other day! - but I'll still work at home at least 2 days a week I think. You have to be motivated, I think - to be able to get enough done. For me, it's easier and more relaxing to work in my pajamas on my couch than sitting in a stuffy office! Good luck!

For me it's easier to be sitting in my pyjamas on my couch with a DVD
