I'm about to do my MA in English Lit from this September, and ideally I would like to do PhD straight after that. But I can only do PhD if I get funding. I understand it's extremely competitive and difficult. So any advice or tips you have which will be appreciated.

Answers to some expected questions:
I want to do PhD because I have a genuine interest in doing so, and I am one of those crazy people who actually like spending time studying!

I am a mature student, so already been in the workplace and not doing phd to avoid having to go in the job market.

I am only looking to do PhD in UK (funding is easier in US, but oh well).

My advice would be prepare for the worst i.e. save lots of money if you have a job, and if you don't have one then get one. When you are doing your Master's get to know the PhD students and some of them can help you with your funding applications.
