...what if I CAN'T?
M

I had a very similar situation at the same point in my PhD. It now a couple of years on and I am in the process of writing-up and getting publications on my CV. It's taking me a little longer than I would have liked, but the finishing post is in sight at last.

To have got this far suggests you have the strength to get through, there will, however, always be times when you question this.

Printing paper?
M

I might do, depends largely on if my supervisor thinks it necessary.

Buying in bulk from a office stationary store usually reduces the cost of the 100gsm paper.

I've always bought the value printer paper from the supermarket - about 80gsm, although I print on a laser printer (Ink might be different).

Hi,

I just watched 20 minutes of it and turned it off. Staff talking to people outside their department, highly unrealistic! etc etc.

24 hour access to facilities: Reality or a distant dream....?
M

I'm at Essex
1.  The PG's have a shared office in our department with some computers (that just about work) and some shelving space. We have our own key and so can access it anytime.
2 & 3. There is a PG common room - but it is more a space for eating and sleeping.
4. There is a 24 hour (except weekend and holidays) reading room at the side of the library with wi-fi and computers. (We also have a number of 24 hour computer labs)

Hope this helps.

HELP! demotivated and lost

I've recently re-written my literature review and it took me some time to get into writing it. I found two books particularly helpful in getting me started: How to write a thesis by Rowena Murray and How to Write a Lot: A Practical Guide to Productive Academic Writing by Paul J. Silva.

Best advice I can give is don't get overwhelmed by the big picture (in this case the lit review), break it down into manageable chunks e.g. by theme/chronologically or however you intend to separate you sections.
