MA not suited to PhD application?
M

Hi, a difference between your MA and PhD may not be an issue, so long as you can show you have a plan to bridge any gaps. My MA was in a totally different area to my PhD, and I needed to be able to code which I had not done before. I did some online courses before and during my application which helped.

Hi, I think it will be possible, although you will have to be very strict with yourself to keep up with the writing. I am in a similar position in that I have just submitted but have been working full time for the past 6 months. You have a clear deadline so work backwards from submission, and allow at least a week from final piece of writing to soft binding - you do not want to proofread the day before as you really won’t be thinking straight if you do it at the last minute, I know from experience! Best of luck

PhD Submission Problem
M

I have just submitted my thesis but am really concerned about it. I found out 2 weeks ago that my lead supervisor had left the university without telling me and that I had to submit within two weeks or get a new supervisor, and pay fees for the full year. As I was at the end of an extension due to my partner’s serious illness and my funding had ended I already had to go to work full time. Luckily my employer let me have two weeks off and I scrabbled together a final analysis chapter and intro and conclusion, but I’m really worried as no one saw the intro and conclusion and I got only minimal feedback on my last chapter. I barely had time to proof read, have already found a number of mistakes, and have realised that one appendix is missing. Any advice how to approach my viva? I don’t think I’m going to get much if any support from my remaining supervisor, not just because I am not in the city any more but because most of my thesis is well outside his area and my lead supervisor had suggested I only showed some chapters to him.
