Hi guys,
I'm hoping that some of you have spent time visiting labs at other universities. I need to spend a few months in New Zealand as part of my PhD training but as I would not be a registered student at a university there, it doesn't seem like I'm eligible to apply for a student visa. Does anyone know if I could visit a lab on a visitor's visa?
Are you sending your CV along with the Email? Also, when I was applying for PhDs (all outside the U.K.), I found that asking for a Skype chat to discuss my interest in their lab worked really well! Just make sure that you have read up on their work and have questions prepared beforehand because some do like to use this as an unofficial interview!
Good luck, hope this helps!!:-)
Hi Alex,
I have taken the GRE and honestly it's nothing to worry about. The quantitative section test your ability to spot a problem rather than your maths skills. The math involved is the stuff you would have learned in the early stages of high school, but if you are still worried then ETS ( the board that prepare the GRE) have prepared a book of example papers and pretty much every type of question is in there. (You can get it cheap on Amazon).
Plus, they let you use an on screen calculator during the test!
Hope that helps you!
