Hey guys, i have posted a few threads on here now....where i have expressed concerns about my phd in the environmental sector. My supervisors got made redundant, and my new supervisors didnt have a clue about my subject area.
About a month ago, i started job hunting, and got a interview, I was called back and faced 4 hours of aptitude tests on tuesday. I have just been called back and been offered the job as a environmental consultant, the job i would have applied for after my phd ( cos academia sucks). This was the first application for a job I have ever made and got it peace of piss! A phd was a waste of time, i may try and see if i can convert to on mphil, but i already have an msc so whats the point.
Anyway i start in one month so im off to the alps snowboarding till than.
Hope everyone else lands on their feet.
quitterLOL
Hey guys, a couple of weeks ago I told you about my phd going tits up.....since then my new supervisors have tried to get me out of the university, saying im effectivly incompotent as i brought water in to the building which they thought was radioactive LOL! Idiots!
I had a big meeting with the head of school, and enjoyed making them look like idiots! However ive been for a couple of job interviews, i got two in 2 weeks. The people ive seen offer amazing packages with loads of support, and I can really get my teeth stuck into large projects and learn new skills...something thats not happening at phd level. Rather than have a piece of paper id rather have decent skills and experience, im waiting for them to offer me the job now...cant wait and am praying.....then ill finally quit!!!
No im not....why is someone goig through the same hard time?
Well they were forced to take redundancy....it was either take voulantary redundancy now, or get sacked in 9 months, so 9 people had to go. My 2 supervisors where the ones to go, along with 7 other environmental staff, my dept is no like a gohst town!
Hi I got a 1st class distinction in my msc, so got offered a 2 yr phd fully funded. I accepted because i really liked my supervisors and they were the top of there field. 4 weeks later both my supervisors got sacked from uni, now ive still not got any new official supervisors 2 months later. The dept is running aground, im buying my own software and theres no money to get data to carry on with my study. I need to use HPGE detectors every month im being told ive gotta wait another month....nothings happening, its beyond my control and no one seems to give a fuck!
Im so stressed out with it, since my supervisors and 9 staff got made redundant its all gone to pot! Is this a reason worth quitting?
I want to enter the environmental sector, and i dont think 2 years of heart ach and failure are going tyo do me any favours, i defo dont want to get mixed up in academea after ive had to put up with all this crap!
Opinions are greatly accepted!
