I had an incredibly moody masters supervisor. He would blow up, and swear about tiny things that didn't matter. That was his personality....when I didn't let it get to me, and ignored him, he told me later that I was the only student who seemed to 'get him'. haha.
Not really helpful, but I thought that I would let you know that you're not alone!
Quorn is not banned in America. If you go here: http://www.quorn.com/
you will see that America has its own quorn site.
The US is the only North American country to carry it.
I can't comment on universities abroad, but in North America, this type of relationship is generally frowned upon; however, many universities (save the University of California), don't have strict policies against it.
Many have policies in place regarding professional conduct between a professor and a student, but no policy to prevent it.

There is an article from the New York times discussing student-prof relationships if anyone is interested.
Hey Olivia!
I'm from Canada! Yay, another north american!
Anyway, I feel your 'pain' on the dropping everything and moving to a new country to follow a dream. That is me! There are days that I want to pull all of my hair out, but in the end, i think that it will all be worth it.......at least I am hoping. My mood has done some wild swinging, and I expect that it will do more over the course of this degree, but as of right now (in one hour it could be different ) I have no regrets.
That's so odd that we almost have parallel lives there!
