Thanks for the replies! I am feeling a lot more positive about things today and think you are all right - I won't take it personally! I think if I just put the emphasis on why my research is valid and the 'new' aspects of it, hopefully it will be ok...
I'm glad I got accepted, I just wish that - for my first conference!- I could have felt really positive about it! Oh well, it's all a learning curve I suppose!
Thanks again!
Sarah :-)
Hello all!
I received a response from the organisers of a conference that I submitted an abstract to....whilst the abstarct was accepted their comments were really disheartening....they said that they were not sure that my work was 100% original and was simply 'old wine in a new bottle'!!
I am wondering why they accepted the abstract is this is how they feel about it?!! Part of me is just really annoyed and thinks stuff 'em! Then another part of me wants to prove that I do have something to add to the topic - whilst my research area isn't new, the reason I'm revisiting it is because it is still ambiguous and there's still loads of unanswered questions....
This is the first abstract I've submitted as I'm still early on in my research but feel very disheartened by their comments...
Anyway, I just felt the need to vent!! :-)
Morning all!
Well, I finally managed to get another mini-section of my literatrue complete - just one more to go then I think that's the first chapter drafted...need to send it off to sups by Thursday so got to crack on...
Goal 1: Draft outline of final mini-section and organise journals accordingly!
:-)
I'll have your 500 words too! Although if you could rearrange them for me so they relate to my subject that would be useful!!!
Actually, I think I would rather be adding words then trying to take them away! Editting is a tough task!
Right, head down for another hour then got to head to uni - I've been summoned by my supervisor! No doubt he has more non-PhD related work for me! Grrrr!!!
:-) x
Morning all,
Well I've finally managed to get 2 of the mini-sections for my lit rev done...I'm working on the thrid one now which is trickier because I can't decide on the structuring of it - oh well, I'm trying not to worry about that and just get it written!
My deadline is next Weds so if I manage to get it written by the end of the week then there should be plenty of time to revise it...fingers crossed!!
My goal for today is to start on my third section and get 500 words written!!!
Have a good day all! xxx
Hi all,
Am a little late logging on today...have been at work all day (I have a 9-5 admin job on a Thurs & Fri) and now I'm home, I need to crack on with my literature...
My writing is a hard slog at the moment and generally ends up with me writing and then re-writing the same paragraph for an hour at a time! Grrr!! Oh well, if at first you don't succeed....
Have got other things to do for my transfer report so if i feel like i'm not making progress, i'll shift to one of them for half an hour or so...
My goal for tonight and tomorrow is to try and get the section I'm writing finished!
xxx
Hi all!
Bloomin' heck - it's 3 o'clock- where's the day gone?!
My goal for this aft is to try and get my head round a really complex theory! Hopefully without finding a million more journals that I need to read! I already have a massive pile on my desk and it only seems to be getting bigger!!
Hope everyone's day is going well.
Sarahx
Morning Sneaks!
Satchi, I hope your week gets better...
Today's goal is to make a start on one of the mini-sections of my lit...I have an outline so it's just a question of filling it out. Hopefully it will be a productive day - at least the sun seems to have gone in so my office won't be like an oven!!
S xx
Had a bit of a manic day...I decided at midnight last night that I wanted to submit an abstract for a conference and the deadline was today...all a bit rushed but finally just got it finished and quite pleased with it considering...that's today's goal met!
Sx
I work from home all the time. My uni is only 15 mins away so I could easily go in but the postgrad office is shared bwteen about 25 students and its far too distracting.
The only thing I've found is that because my 'office' at home is set up with all my books/journals etc, if I ever do have to go into uni to work, I end up having to take a lot of stuff with me and invariably forget something! I suppose this depends where you are with your research though. I'm at a stage of writing where I need a lot of literature, maybe if you didn't need so much stuff, this aspect would be easier...
However, on the up side, at home you can have food/drinks as much as you like and also listen to music without the need for headphones! :-)

Morning everyone,
I thought I'd contribute to this thread as I seem to have hit a major stumbling block...I need to hand in a draft lit review 2 weeks on Monday to my sups and am having major issues with actually getting to the writing & structuring - I know what I want to say, I'm just having trouble saying it! It's so frustrating!!
Anyway, one day at a time!!
Today's goals are:
1. Revise plan & break down the sections of the review into more manageable chunks
2. Make a start with at least one of the smaller areas and start to write
Hope everyone has a good day!
Sx
Thanks everyone - I'm feeling a lot better about things now....I'm going to have a play around with it, redraft a couple of bits and then re-submit elsewhere...
Thanks for all being so nice - just to keep trying I guess! Fingers crossed for next time!
:-)
