Thank you...that is probably the best advice I have had to date...especially in regard to swallowing my pride..and that my time will come...I generally strive for consensus..but have shocked myself at times at how precious I can be...the process is interesting..thats for sure

sjo4...thanks for the heads up...that is a shocker...just realising how naive I am...and am a mature student who is quite clued up on recognising the sharks in a tank...however...academia is another tank altogether...How did you rebuild trust...

Very Machiavellian ... have started wondering... as most suggestions I have made lately have been politely ignored i.e. no evaluation or feedback on work I have done ... feel like I am being manouvered...perhaps I was a bit premature in my earlier praise of supportive supervision...or is it early onset paranoia...

Another question for today...I have been advised that I need to be in a position to write up ready for publishing within six months of starting my PhD...is this usual? I just don't think I will be anywhere near ready...one of my supervisors has suggested a study that is supposed to be quick to turn around but not actually part of my research proposal and linked by topic only...I feel this will distract and be time consuming...what do you think?

Hi all...my research has been accepted as a poster presentation at the BPS Annual Conference in April...I do not have a clue how to go about or what a poster presentation is ! Does anybody have any tips/advice?

What specific equipment is needed for psychophysiological measurement? If I understand the research so far I will need equipment that measures both cardio and vascular responses..that is impedance cardiographic and blood pressure recording devices....I can hardly write it down never mind understand what it is!!! I am hoping (operative word) to evoke challenge and threat patterns of cardiovascular response by experimental manipulation...
If any of this makes sense...could anyone out there enlighten?

Can anybody recommend a good research methods handbook that includes psyhophysiological design and measurement...especially cardiovascular...

Good to read that others are happy with their supervisors...this whole PhD process is scary/ambigious/bewildering...reading a few positive comments helps me to keep a balance!

Olivia is right..just returned from NY ...flew into Newark and stayed at the airport which is in New Jersey...much cheaper...stayed at the Marriot Hotel Jersey Gardens ....great retail park nearby...hotel was 99 US per room and it slept 4...complementary shuttle to and from the airport where terminal is for train...Train or coach into NY..train faster coach cheaper...food in Deli's very reasonable...had a great not too expensive trip doing it that way...

I realise we do not often have much positive to say about supervision...but I have to say that to date my supervisors have been great...supportive, caring and engaged...are there other great supervsiors out there or am I just very lucky?
