It can possibly be done. at my university there's no problem doing it as long as u r always in touch with ur supervisor (phone, mail, fax...). I don't know if it's the same thing in other universities.

i think page numbers are necessary for both quoting and citing. otherwise the only other possible option is writing it in ur style.

I think u'd better take the offer.especially if there no serious problems with the supervisor. having the same teacher will help u communicate better and will help te work go faster. I'm talking to u from personal experience since i'm having the same supervisor for my PhD.
