Why do you want to do PhD in UK???

Why not do it in the US, CAN, NZ, AUS,...

I think you are not flexible and that is the root cause of frustration.

Forgot to say, you spend on average 6 years to get a PhD in the US, vs 3 years in UK. If you fail your qualifiers exams, they will tell you to go.

In the US, you can go directly to PhD - lots of schools don't have a Masters program. If people pass qualifiers in PhD program you automatically get a Masters degree.

You are typical PhD!

If you start mingle again, you won't enjoy it as much as the before-PhD days - you would be thinking about that unfinished homework/Probalem sets, you would be worried to death about the next test...

Frankly, you cannot waste your time doing anything apart from study - unless your extracurricular activities helps you to stay alive and healthy in your program.

Your life will be more stressful if you are bossed around by people with PhDs. Or you cannot get that promotion because someone with a PhD got it, or one day you suddenly find out that you still need a PhD and you are already 50...

Doing a PhD at a 'non red-brick' university

If the uni is less prestigious, it is harder to get a job in academia later on. However, if you have intelligent profs, then you are more likely to be treated as a prize. In a good uni, where your fellow students are all close to geniuses and dynamos, you can feel inferior.

In prestigious ones, it is also harder to complete your PhD quickly - they criticise too much. You can feel useless in the end...

Are you motivated? Then, please....

To motivate yourself, you need to have a life apart from having the PhD life. Having something else that keeps your heart light. I am not motivated all the time, but I realise the need to be motivated and most importantly, to be happy and not sad.
