I don't think that's fair. My misunderstanding was regarding the deadline being for both of myself and my examiner, and my second concern was that my university may wonder what is going on if neither my examiner nor I let them know. I have no friends who have completed PhDs, so I am out of the loop regarding expectations.

It's just I got no confirmation of receipt and I have no idea how these things work so a bit worried that they might just think I've disappeared if my examiner doesn't inform them... I literally have no idea how these things work.

Do I need to contact the university to let them know that I have submitted my revisions? I sent them straight to my examiner and he advised me to do...

Hello all, I have submitted by corrections - I am wondering how long is a decent amount of time to wait for a reply? I don't mean to be pushy (especially as I waited nearly for the full 6 months), but I would like to walk away from this chapter of my life very soon... Is the deadline mentioned a deadline for me only? Or me and my examiner who is checking my corrections? I was given until the end of Aug.

I'm pretty much ready to send my corrections to my examiner tomorrow... and I have one more question: If my examiner doesn't mark my corrections by the due date then will this be a problem for me? I'm worried they might claim that they need just as long (perhaps to have a jab at me). The deadline states I need to hand them in by the end of August... Would I need to inform my university if this happens? Is it likely I would be given an extension in terms of waiting for my examiner to mark and get my thesis bound?

Hi - I was actually told straight up "This is for you to do in a week" - but was sent the corrections 3 weeks later and the deadline on it said I had 6 months in total... I am 75% done, but you know - feel very embarrassed as my examiner is a big name in the field. Is it worth an explanation in this case?

When I passed my PhD viva I just wanted a break and then I started a job soon after and every day I have felt too shattered to get real progress done. I feel so embarrassed and wonder if I should be upfront about this to my examiner (my corrections are due back by the end of Aug - 6 months deadline) or just send the corrections without an explanation...?

I'm in the UK and haven't been told whether I should prepare slides. Has anyone prepared slides for their viva? How many slides would be sensible? I'm a bit lost!

I have my viva on Wednesday and I know for a fact that I won't recall the literature very well. I have despised my PhD over the years and nothing seems to make a difference when it comes to remembering references. Am I likely to flunk this thing? I have two publications so far. What stretegies can I use to deflect from my terrible memory? My friend has suggested giving a presentation with some references included and after this use the phrase "previous literature suggests..." I feel like I am going to fail this. Can anyone offer and advice....?

Yes.... For instance each of my empirical chapters is essentially a paper I wrote up (not all published) that I converted, and then for the last chapter (discussion & conclusions) I attempted to paraphrase... but errr it may seem quite copy and pastey in areas. I wonder if this will have me sent to hell?

I have paraphrased (practically copied and pasted) large chunks of my thesis across chapters. It this worthy of failure or some terrible consequences?
