Quote From v2gls:
I have a high 2:1 B.Sc. in maths (close to first class) and I have been offered a place to study M.Sc. in applied maths in Imperial and UCL.. The year after my masters I want to start phd studies..
Also my masters' exam period is during the third academic term and consequently a few months after the dates I will have to submit a Phd application.
As a result, I won't be able to present any graduate level results in my application.

In this case, do you think I might encounter problems because of my B.Sc. grade?
I think it might be weak for these universities.. ( or others in Uk top 10)
Also, will I have a problem with the funding ? Is it possible to find adequate money for 3-4 years? Does anyone have experience in respective situation?

Thanks in advance.. any thoughts are welcome

which program?
V

Costs are a considerable factor..
A year in London + tuition fees cost much more than 2 years in Germany !!

which program?
V

Univ Bonn is the strongest university for maths in Germany (according to the ranking tables).. I can't decide between it and Imperial..
Bonn seems to offer a more complete program while Imperial's is less flexible.. However, indeed, Imperial has the reputation

I have offers from UCL, Imperial and Univ of Bonn to study mathematics..
Does anyone has experience from these programs?
Any thoughts or advice would be very useful..

Warwick or Edinburgh
V

I consider the department ranking more important too.
However, bare in mind that the Warwick's statistics department is separate from the mathematics department. So, I am not sure whether the rankings you see on the internet refer to the statistics department too or not. You could spent some time to search for it.
Also, as far as I know, Warwick is located in a place where you do not have many after-university things to do ( I have friends there. it is not my personal experience )

Change of entrance semester
V

I have an offer from a German university for a masters program starting in the summer semester of 2016.. I like their program and I would like to attend it ( I haven't answered to their offer yet) .
However, I have regretted applying for the summer semester and I would prefer to start in the winter semester of 2016..
Which is going to be their response to this request?? Is it possible to change their offer for the winter semester OR I will have to reapply??

Also, in case I decide to request this, should I explain the reasons that led me to this decision OR I could just mention "personal reasons" ??

Thanks in advance

Maths in Germany

Thanks a lot for your answers! I will take them into account..

(As regards Berlin Mathematical School, it offers a rather unique programme for a European
university, as the Phd lasts 5years and follows the US's policy for Phd programmes. )

Maths in Germany

I have an offer for a Masters in Mathematics from Technical University of Munich.. and I have also applied in Bonn and Berlin Mathematical School (this one is for Phd)..

Does anyone have experience of these universities/cities ? Which program is considered the best? (I do not have a preference for a specific program's content. )

Which other universities could I consider? Any thoughts or advice would be helpful..

Msc in maths.. which university???
V

Hi , which two would you choose between LSE , UCL , Edinburgh and St.Andrews ?? I have been trying to narrow my choices but it is very complicated.. I know that the London universities are prestigious enough but the other two are higher in many math-lists.. Could you give me any advise and explain your choice??

Any information would be usefull..

If i had to choose i would choose LSE's programm , but i am concerned whether LSE's reputation can justify the high cost of living in London and the high tuition fees.

(The content of the courses is applied mathematics and statistics but i am not sure which one i prefer.. so do not take this aspect under consideration )

two important questions
V

Hi i have just finished my bachelor in Maths and in November i am thinking of applying for a master degree in England, Germany, Switzerland and Netherlands.
I would like to get some information regarding the following questions and any information/opinion would be very useful and welcome.
a1) In case i won't be accepted in England will it be feasible to pursue a job in England or US after my master ?? ( Unfortunately i can not afford a degree in US) Has anyone of you done anything similar? However, i understand that staying in your master's country for some time might be more reasonable.
a2) When a company assesses my job application do they consider my master's grades ? Which factors are take into account?

b) A few universities in Germany won't assess my application before April. However, i don't want to submit the rest of my applications in April because the competition will be more intense in comparison with November. Is there anything i could do so that to apply to Germany too ?? How much time does a university offer me until i have to answer to their offer?? Did anyone of you have the same problem??

Thanks for reading...

gre for master??
V

Hi , i would like to share the following thought with you and any information is welcoming (and very useful). In December i am thinking of applying for a master degree in universities primarily located in England and Switzerland, and my master will be in maths. I have been trying to find a way to strengthen my application, as my overall degree score is not as good as i think it should be for applying in the top universities of these countries ( such as ETH, UCL or Imperial )
(Although my grades on the courses related to my master are high enough)
So i am thinking of having the GRE test (even if it is not required for any application and it is not mentioned in any math department of any university). Do you know if there are students in the same situation as mine , who had the exam and were benefited because of it? Is a high GRE score considered in the evaluation process?
