I also found a graduate job at BlackRock as an equity analyst. Now I'm very interested in the stock market and the economy and it sounds interesting but what does it really take to survive there?

I saw two job ads this week. One at BlackRock as a Graduate Equity Analyst and one at Brooks Mcdonald as an Graduate Trainee Investment Management. I am personally very interested in the stock market etc. but don't really know what those two jobs would be like and if I have what it takes to be successful in them.

Let's say I start a graduate scheme with an accounting firm in september and my graduation ceremony would be in october for which i'd need two days to attend. would that be generally a problem in the uk?

Additionally, is the recording of the time you spent on client work really that strict and how does it work with the statistics that are produced out of it? What if there is not enough work so you got bad stats???

I saw a few jobs ads for Public Sector Audit Graduates. What is the difference from such a role to a "regular" Audit Graduate? Is the workload different? Hours? Level of stress/pressure?

E.g. in a city like Edinburgh or Brighton??

I assume that it is just the same with every good working environment - it is popular with people looking for a job.

I have experience in the corporate world, working for a big mulitnational. Just wasn't for me. I figure a university is much more suited for me. I just wonder what options I would have after working there for a couple of years if I wanted to make a change or move back to my home country.

@bewildered: that could be that reason but I simply don't really like it there but a lot here!

Now to make it short what is "better": ACA or CIPFA? What involves longer hours, more work for the exam etc.?

Hey. This post may seem a bit odd but I am serious about it. So I'm from Germany originally and would like to stay here after my postgrad degree. Everyone I talk about this seems stunned and is like "WTF? Really?".

So is it "strange" for a German to stay here? If I get a job let's say in southern England, will people be friendly towards me and how easy will it be to make some friends? I always feel that I stick out as a German...

Thanks for your input but I must say again that I am not looking for a position in teaching but in their administration, i.e. finance department and so on. So NO teaching ;-)
