Hi!
I have a 3 years BSc (Hons) degree earned from a UK university through e-learning. Actually, I did the first two years diplomas from NCC, UK and then got in to this degree and earned it with a 2.1, though my GPA is not that impressive.
On the other hand I have done well in my thesis - which subjected to the commendation of course leader, even some academics commented on it saying it is on par with an MSc thesis. Anyway, my thesis was quite wide in scope and I published few conference papers from it. Also I have already submitted a journal paper which is under review and now working with another one.
Apart from this, I am now involved in collaborative research with an international university and planning to co - author some papers based on that.
I recently applied for a Phd in Australia and got rejected - amazingly not for funding but for admission itself. Is there any chances for me to improve myself by doing further researches (as I do now) and submit some papers. I mean, does non degree research experience and some good publications will improve my profile from the current stage - without considering a Masters?
Actually, I had only two conference papers at the time I applied for the above offer which got rejected. In case of having few journal papers, could it be improved? Still I don't know the reason for rejection may be due to the fact that my one is a credit transfer based degree.
Thanks.......
Thanks,
I am in the process of publishing my dissertation as a book. Also, I am working on some papers, which I am planning to submit for relevant journals. I was thinking this, along with an year of working experience as a research assistant would be enough for applying for a scholarship. However, your reply shows that the competition might be high and I may not be able to secure anything. In case is it advisable to go for an MRes? In such case do you think that I have any opportunity to apply for funding for my MRes, with my 2.1 + publications? Please let me know.
thanks

I have just completed my BSc (Hons) degree in technology Management & Computing, and waiting for the results of my final dissertation. I am confident enough to earn a 2.1 degree but the average is not very high (60) and even I have 50 marks for two 10 credit modules. However, I am expecting an A grade for my dissertation which is exactly a research project. Also I have strong academic references as I have gained class highest for both course work and final exam for a certain module. I am aspiring to go for a PhD in Information Systems / Human Computer Interaction or related areas.
By the way, I have learnt from some of my friends regarding the usefulness of work experience in PhD Scolorships. Some of them stated that the relevent experience will be an added advantage in these circumstances. What do you think about the nature of work which I could do to increase my potentiality to be eligible for a scol? As, my subject area is a social science area, is it advicable to work any data collection related work such as requirement gathering for IS projects, or doing and data collection work in relevant organizations such as Tourist Board Research Division? Please advice me... Also please let me know what else i could do imcrease my potentiality for a PhD scol? Thanks.
Hi,
I have completed my BSc earned through e-learning and waiting for the results of my final dessertation. I want to publish some articles related to my final project topic in relevent magazines.
Is it accepted to write with a BSc? I mean is there any considerations given by the editorial board to an article submitted by a student with BSc against the articles submitted by people with high qualifications?
Please let me know,

Hi..It is nice to notice a related conversation here, which I was really interested to know.
The student could not archive his fullest potential, even though he struggled hard due to some external reasons. especially, the student score only average marks in some of the modules in the degree. However he/she managed to do well in the research project element; which is weighted for 1/4th of the final year.
Additionally, the academic references are strong, and indicating the student's ability to undertake independent research.
In this case, what will be the decision of selection panel. Exactly I want to know the role of academic references in selection.
Will the average performance tend to be a negative factor? or else the research project and academic reference will complement this?
Let me know if possible.
Thanks.
