Wow, difficult situation and either way you are going to lose something. The key is deciding what you want the most and really thinking about that.
I've found that I haven't listened to my intuition enough in the past and normally when I have had second thoughts it was my sub-conscious trying to tell me something.

I'm curious after reading this too, did you find a good position elsewhere?

It's hard sometimes to decide what the best thing to do in a situation is but I am a firm believer in trying things out. If things don't feel right then it is probably time to get out, don't be afraid to listen to your intuition, too many people ignore it and then suffer the consequences!
You could do a lot worse then try and start your career at this point especially given the circumstances in your academic life. Ultimately you have to make the decision as to whether you really NEED that PhD to get where you want to be.
If you do decide to pursue your career check out the realworldgraduate.com website which will give you lots of hints and tips.

Preparation is the key and always will be but remember that it isn't just the presentation that is important but all the factors that surround it.
There's some great motivational advice tweeted on this site, *link removed by admin*
Check out the post on the site about 'Value', http://realworldgraduate.com/. I'm sure there is a great deal generated in your field but is it widely available?
Some see self promotion as demeaning but in an ultra competitive environment it can be the only differentiator.
Let me know what you think.
