thanks for your reply...so you think is terms of
changing lab, the supervisor has the final say? that's sad...I have been relocated
in a different lab because of my supervisor and now I have complained about him,
he decided i wont have any samples to carry on my phd so I have to change
subject: is this legal?why can't the university do something against
this??????? I did not do anything wrong beside reporting him...
thanks to everybody
Hello guys, just few questions:
1.what happens to the lab books at the end of the PhD?
2. what happens to the material /samples generated over the PhD time?
3. what happens if a student has to change laboratory becuase of the suprvisor and the supervisor doesn't give him the material to carry on the research on a different lab? Can the university interefere in this? or is the supervisors that decides what to do?
Thanks, answers are very wellcome!

if i could go back i would not do this phd, maybe i should have put on the table all the problems i encountered with my supervisor from the beginning. If i can give an advice, guys, make clear things from the beginning, don't let your suprvisor let you down or lose your confidence or make you think you are not worth doing a PhD. Talking is maybe the best weapon.
HI guys,
my PhD was interrupted (now several months) beucase I had to be relocated into a different lab with a new supervisor (my supervisor is investigated for bulling and harrassment). This is taking time since the univeristy did not find anyone. The university told me I wil have an extension of my thesis deadline for sure, but never mentioned the "money matter". It is not my fault if they cannot find a suitable laboratory, they paid my stipend until now, but I am gettig worried they won't pay me until the end of my studies. I am at the end of my PhD.Should they have interrupted my stipend waiting for me to go back to the lab? THey did not and I am the victim of the bulling and harrssment. The told me I was goign to be relocated, but there are problems in finding a suitable laboratory/supervisor, so this process is delaying further my studies.
Any advice is wellcome

Hi Emmaki,
like you said it is a temporary thing. I felt the same a lot of times. Im only in my first year, soon starting the second. I sure people in this forum with more experience have told you the right things. Dont give up!and be positive...nothing is forever, and this feeling you have too.One day will be past. Take care
HI There, it might be late, but on my opinion,
and based on advices I had for a similar problem, you should not do anything. As
you are scared for your future career and thus future reference letters, remember that
a change in supervisor means to make a formal complaint about him/her, and this
can only worsen the situation. how many years do you have
left?
Hi Keenbean,
I am sorry about what you have gone through, but I am glad at the end turned out fine.
thanks for your answer, it is very wise. I am scared of my future exactly because i don't know how a complaint will affect my relation with my supervisor. I always thought it was going to make things worse, and of course I am scared of a possible letter of recommendation which he has to write for me when/if I will finish and also of possible publications which might derive from my work.
I don't really have anyone to talk to. i have a feeling I can't trust anyone, included my supervisor's team...they all are friends and collegues. i don't think anyone will take my side.
How can i cope with this for other 2 years?
I am just scared i won't hold for longer and i wonder if i am taking his behaviour too personally or maybe i am not ready for a PhD and all the stress that comes from/with it...
But thanks a lot for your answer...it was very useful!
Hi there,
I am PhD student at the end of my first year. I have a very weird relation with supervisor, he thinks everybody is happy about him and his behaviour, however, we all are fed up. he is prepared in his field and well recognized, but he looks like living in another reality. A lot of people had problems with him, because of his psychopathic behaviour, most have also complained about him, even people outside the lab, who have nothing to do with him profesionally. I have been affected as well by his behaviour and a lot of times I thought I was not good enough to do a Phd, however, as student who has worked very hard to get here, I never thought to quit my PhD. I don't know what would happen to me, to my future, when I complain about him, like other did, included students and staff. I have taken anti depressants and really did a lot of counselling to cope with this since the beginning of my course, but I now I felel very lost and hopeless, no matter how many drugs I am taking. I have been told to have severe depression and I was hospitalised for 10 days. I am very scared. How is the University dealing with such problems? What are my options and possible consequences of a complaint? Will anyone take serious decision about him and my future as a student?
