I agree on not sharing these issues at work/school. I have never shared something like this, but I have heard people talking about it. People should understand. Sometimes, they do not. I would never cry in front of a supervisor. Again, not saying this is right or just, but that is the way it is. I have found the risk is too great! DO tell family & friends & get counseling and go back to the doctor.
I hate this type of behavior. The problem is..if you keep your head down and keep working, the damage they do continues. If you discuss with someone, you risk looking petty. I would recommend scheduling a meeting with your supervisor, explaining that you enjoy doing a good job & would like some feedback. You do not have to mention the people gossiping, but this opens up dialogue between yourself and the person that really matters. Bad situation! Gossip is evil & people who intentionally disparage others are even more evil. I wish you the best!
I have been researching various options for transcribing qualitative interviews. Verbatim seems like a waste of some time. I have read about gist, or summarizing, but I do not want to be that loosey-goosey. The practice that has attracted my attention is coding audio. It seems like a great idea, and once coded and analyzed, transcribe specific passages. I found a few research articles on this practice. I have completed one other qual study, and transcribed interviews. I get much more out of listening over and over to the actual voice. I realize coding words is useful, but coding audio seems more useful & more streamlined. I would not be embedding any audio in an online journal or anything, just using audio for coding.Basically, thoughts on transcription methods besides verbatim. Any transcription methods I am missing? Thanks in advance.
